Eureka Certification for 2014-2015

Certification is an exciting opportunity to keep track of what you have done throughout the year!   
It may be used for college applications or personal records of academic accomplishment.  It may be completed at any point in the school year, but the entirety of the requirements below must be satisfied between Aug 2014 and May 2015 (before the cultural dinner)
Please contact the lens mentor if you are interested in pursuing certification so they can keep track of your progress as well as help you in your goals.  Thanks!
 
DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING
Euclid:
Complete the following:
-Review and show understanding to mentor or parent of the first section of book 1 of Euclid: common notions, etc.
-Re-create the first 14 Propositions of Book 1 using a compass

Fallacies
Study and identify examples in today's society (media, literature, ads, etc) of 7 different fallacies from "The Art of Argument" and present them in class 

Math Moments:
-Share 7 Math Moments in Vanguard

Read 7 pre-approved "math classics" during the year:
-Doing the readings for journeyman or master class satisfy this requirement.  -Please contact the lens mentor for approval of potential substitutions.

In-class science presentation:
Create your own science project one time during the school year. 
-choose a month topic to do your project on and then contact the mentor so they can allow for class time for you to present your research and findings to the class.
-follow the "scientific method" to research a question of interest
-create a science fair type presentation to share your finding with the class

Do one year-long Eureka project, approved by mentor, and report and present on your project to the class in May:
Sample projects
 -Come up with a goal (#of hours, level of progression) in a language of interest you would like to learn
-Pursue your knowledge in a field on interest by taking a class or setting up a plan of personal study and following through (biology, math, etc)
You will be reporting monthly on the progress of your project to your mentor for accountability and feedback.
